London - Paris - Berlin - New York - Montreal, Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd., [1914], 27,5 x 12,5 cm, 16 pp., printed paper cover, single stapled signature, including six solid watercolour paint colours. The cover is somewhat smudged and there is a waterstain on the inside of the front cover, but there are no damages and only one colour plate has been (partly) coloured (in pencil), the other three plates are not coloured. Next to each colour plate, there is the same illustration printed in full colour as an example for what colours to use. The beautiful illustrations are by Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879-1964), who has illustrated very many children's books, including "Peter Pan and Wendy" by J.M. Barrie. This copy has a pasted in admission form for a painting competition organised by the publisher. This form is dated to 1914. l Father Tuck's patent "Paint Box" series

The text pages are mostly light pages and often with an illustration in black and white, the pages with full colour illustrations are grey. All pages are heavy paper. The outer pages are slightly discoloured, the first few pages are somewhat damaged along the spine and some corners of the pasted in illustrations are folded, but over all, the book in good condition with only minor signs of wear. The book was originally published in English and is now translated in Dutch by Dina Alida Cramer-Schaap (1893-1976) with the original illustrations by Lawson Wood (1878-1957).l About little monkey Jim and his adventures at the fancy fair

The book is filled with children's poems, each poem accompanied by a lovely Rie Cramer illustration, pasted in, full colour. There are 16 pasted in illustrations, including the ones on the cover. Hardcover with brown cloth spine and orange-red laminated boards. The book is in good condition (the edges of the front cover and spine are a little worn). Size: 18,5 x 18,5 cm, 56 pp. 11 full-page coloured illustrations by Walter Crane (engraved on wood by Edmund Evans) and margin decorations, in different styles and color schemes, on every page. The front cover shows a pictorial scene of the song Hey did-le did-le!, while the back shows a crane (bird) holding the musical scores of the same song. The music for the Baby's Opera was collected and arranged by Lucy Crane, Walter's sister. The first edition of the Opera was published in 1877 by George Routledge & Sons.l Walter Crane (1845-195) was one of the great innovative British book illustrators, along with Kate Greenaway and Randolph Caldecott. In the early years he got his main inspiration from illuminated medieval manuscripts, Japanese prints and the pre-Raphaeli
