The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling.
London:, Walker, Rivington, et al.,, 1819., Later edition, Hardcover. Two volumes, 24mo, about 5 inches (13cm) tall, in full deep burgundy polished calf with decorative border on the covers, spine with intricate gilt filigree around diamond shaped openings, speckled edges. Period binding by Clarke with tag on both front pastedowns. 524 and 525 pages respectively. A lovely early 19th century binding for this classic of English literature. Earlier bookseller notes on pencil of verso of front endpaper. Frontis and illustrated title (opposite of each other) of each volume have marginal foxing and are darkened by offsetting. Very light foxing throughout. Binding sound. The covers show light extremity wear and scratching, but otherwise remarkably well preserved. Very Good+.
