Berlin, Izd-vo I.P. Ladyzhnikova, 1923. Cloth-backed boards with original decorated cover laid down. A little damp spotting and browning to paper, thumbing to some pages but overall very sound. Used; Good Nikolay Yakovlevich Agnivtsev (1888-1932) was a poet, dramatist and notably a children's author. He attended Petersburg University (but did not graduate). Agnivtsev contributed to "Satirikon" and various other journals. In 1917, he took part in "Bi-Ba-Bo" cabaret and wrote much of its repertoire. In 1921, in Berlin, he published his "St. Petersburg" verse collection. This present work is a new edition entitled "Blistatelnyi Sankt'-Peterburg'." [Brilliant St. Petersburg]. Hardback.

Moscow Moskva, GIII, 1957. A very nice bright copy. Clean and tight. Small scrape to upper cover. Used; Very Good Photo-album of the Kabardino-Balkaria in the North Caucasus. Beautifully illustrated throughout with Alpert's striking photographs (b/w). Max Alpert, photographer and photo-journalist frequently contributed to the iconic Soviet magazine USSR in Construction (cf Rodchenko, Shaikhet et al). He was born in Simferopol but settled in Odessa and enlisted in the Red Army in 1919. He worked later for Rabochaia Gazeta and Pravda. Some of his most notable work was a series of photographs of a hydroelectric plant on the Dnepr and a series on the construction of the Fergana Canal. Paperback.

Sofia, Izdatelstvo Zlatolyra Zlatolira, 1923. In very good condition. Paper yellowing a little. Used; Very Good The present volume was published in 1923 by Zlatolyra in Sofia but actually printed in Berlin. By this time the author was living in Prague. Born in Sevastopol in 1881, the satirist Averchenko moved to Petersburg in 1908 where he became editor of the magazine Dragonfly, later Satyrikon and New Satyrikon. Frequent contributors were humourist Teffi (Nadezhda Lokhvitskaya), graphic artist Re-Mi (Nikolai Remizov) and the poet Sasha Chorny (Alexander Glikberg). After the October Revolution, the journal was declared anti-Soviet and Averchenko moved back home but then left hurriedly for Constantinople. He eventually settled in Prague. As well as the Ottoman capital, he also stayed briefly in Paris, Sofia and Belgrade, publishing in most of these cities. His oeuvre comprises some 20 books and numerous articles and collections. All his books are now scarce. In original printed card covers. Hlne Heinsdorf's pictorial ex libris inside. (Could be the Polish journalist Helene Heinsdorf-Lewinson? See Sonderfahndungsliste G.B.).
