Internally very tight and clean. In good condition generally. Stanley G. R. Barrett's ornate bookplate (coat-of-arms Veritas Vincit) to paste-down. Countess Marie Louise Larisch von Moennich was niece and lady-in-waiting and confidante of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. She was implicated in the Mayerling Incident which resulted in the death of her married cousin Crown Prince Rudolf and his mistress Baroness Mary Vetsera. Marie Louise published several books, with a ghost-writer, on the Imperial household.

Loosely enclosed newspaper cutting (c. 1947) on 'Marshal Tito's Pact with the Bulgarians'. A very good copy. Doreen Agnes Rosemary Julia Warriner (1904-1972) OBE was a development economist. She is now known for her role in rescuing refugees just before and during World War II. In December 1938, Warriner started her work in Prague as a British Committee for Refugees from Czechoslovakia representative. She was previously best known as a specialist and authority on peasant farming. writing both before and after WWII on rural and agrarian problems in Eastern Europe. She spent a year in Yugoslavia in the 1930s working for U.N.N.R.A. The present book concerns the social and economic revolution as experienced in post-war Eastern Europe. Hardback.

Upper board a little warped, owner label to f.e.p.. Else very clean and tight. Pro-Mihailovic eyewitness account of both warfare and civilian life during WWII in Yugoslavia. The author was daughter of the Serbian charge d' affaires in London, Alexander Yovitchich or Jovicic and wrote his biography: "The Biography of a Serbian Diplomat " (1939) amongst other works (pages from 'Here and There in Serbia', 'Peeps at Many Lands': Yugoslavia). An interesting meeting with Lady Leila Paget in 1946 is recorded. Hardback.
