Johan Åkerblad (1763-1819), Swedish diplomat and orientalist, was a student of Silvestre de Sacy. He is probably most famous for his contribution to the decipherment of the hieroglyphic script on the Rosetta Stone. During his last years in Rome he was mainly devoted to the studies of Greek epigraphy. Due to limited economical means he only published four small works in Rome, of which this is one. It is dedicated to his friend Andreas Italinsky and deals with the interpretation of a tombstone with Greek and Phoenician scripts. Includes also a Hebrew transcription. Rare. The Phoenicians were a Semitic-speaking people of somewhat unknown origin who emerged in the Levant around 3000 BC.[8] The term Phoenicia is an ancient Greek exonym that most likely described one of their most famous exports, a dye also known as Tyrian purple;

A fictional "Hindu" tale written by Francis William Bail, a British writer and an expert in Sanskrit literature. He wrote fantasy stories that he claimed were translated from ancient Sanskrit tales, but eventually it turned out that he had written the fairy tales himself.

It was published as part of Proletarian Internationalism which formed the core of the 1920s Communist pedagogical doctrine by showing troubled lives of those living outside the Soviet Union.

Robert Benson, a British judge and historian who accompanied a group of commissioners to Corsica with the aim to carry into effect the bequests of the Corsican patriot General Pasquale Paoli (1725-1807) who spent his last years in exile in Britain.
