LOWELL, D. R.
Photograph and Signed Manuscript Note Fragment, Matted and Framed
LOWELL, D. R. PHOTOGRAPH AND SIGNED MANUSCRIPT NOTE FRAGMENT, MATTED AND FRAMED. [n.p. n.d.] Manuscript sample from a note from Lowell to William Dana ORCUTT, author of (among other works) FROM MY LIBRARY WALLS: A KALEIDOSCOPE OF MEMORIES. The aforementioned book is based on articles he wrote for The Christian Science Monitor about literary figures and their writings; this is one of Orcutt's mementos, literally from his library wall. Note fragment measures 2 x 3 7/8 inches; photograph 5 x 3 7/8 inches. Photo resembles a cabinetcard, sepia toned, possibly dating from 1900 - the first decade of the 20th century (although the whiskers might be considered old-fashioned for that period). The note culminates in Lowell's signature, and the fragment mentions a gift of some unnamed volumes. Faint pale spotting to edges of image in photograph, else fine. In a plain black wooden frame, 12 7/8 x 8 1/2 inches. .

ROUGET, Bernard, photographer, Esquisse D'Un Portrait de la Marocaine
ROUGET, Bernard, photographer
Esquisse D'Un Portrait de la Marocaine
19. ROUGET, Bernard, photographer, et al. ESQUISSE D'UN PORTRAIT DE LA MAROCAINE. [N.p. n.d. but perhaps Casablanca: Societe Shell du Maroc, circa 1950-1960]. Text in French. [16] pp. essay by Francois Bonjean, illustrated by Edy Legrand, accompanied by a group of 8 black and white photographs by Bernard Rouget showing Moroccan women and girls in traditional dress, and a group of 8 color lithographs reproducing line drawings by Edy Legrand showing the same. The photographs are silver gelatin prints, 11 3/4 by 9 1/4 inches, and five have Rouget's stamp on verso. All (text, photos, & lithos) are in fine condition and housed loose, as issue, in an illustrated paper portfolio. The portfolio shows some edgewear and has been carefully mended/strengthened internally, with remnants of a glassine cover laid in. Before the essay begins, there is a brief statement that the portfolio was produced at the initiative of the Societe Shell du Maroc and that the lithographs were printed in Casablanca. It is also implied that there were to be a limited number of these portfolios, because there is a space marked to number the copy, though no number has been given to this copy and no limitation is indicated. This copy is inscribed in English on the first page "to Ramzy Rizk with affectionate regards from the management and employees of Esso Standard Maroc." Risk was an employee of Exxon (Esso) for over 39 years. .
