Both volumes are in near fine condition, with no discernable flaws, other than a brief ink gift inscription to the front free endpaper of volume I. The slipcase is slightly scuffed, and splitting along one corner, otherwise in very good condition. First published in 1897, this set issued in a limited edition of 1500 copies. Pagination: pp. xxviii, 1,027. Originally published as a three volume set, the third volume containing the index and the maps (pp. 917-1027). Also contains a smaller fold out map showing the routes connecting the Atlantic to the Pacific.
