Corners and edges of boards are well worn and scuffed. Spine is worn with some loss at spine ends. Binding is intact with just the occasional page slightly loose. Binding contemporary to publication. "BASS CANTORIS" has been hand written on the front cover in black ink. Plate printed music is clean and legible with very occasional hand written annotation, paper is slightly darkened and foxed. Previous owners bookplate (F.(?) A. Gardner) on the inside front cover has been crossed out in ink with gift note inscription on facing end-paper "Presented to St. Michael's College, Tenbury by Aurthur H D Prendergast (Hon: Fellow) November 1901". Dedication page to Queen Victoria at front has stamped name " Harward Turner". Index at rear. 166, (2). One volume of the 5-volume set. No dust jacket, as published. Undated by publisher. Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. 2 leather bound volumes with gilt decoration around edges and black spine labels, frontis portrait of John Braham, the Jewish tenor opera singer and minor composer in Volume I and title-vignettes in both volumes, both volumes have 308 pages, there are two distinct music print face which is found on different gathers, one with larger treble clefs and "modern" sharp notation and the other with smaller treble clefs and the earlier sharp notation. Alphabetical contents sheets at the front of each volume. Front cover of volume 1 is detached along with attached front end-paper and rear end-papers in volume I are missing, otherwise the binding is sound, there are crossed out previous owner's names 2-volume set (complete).
