A detailed study of plate 1 which shows Captain James Cook landed at Poverty Bay on 8 October 1769, during his first voyage in the Pacific. The examinations reveals the flaws in the first printing to enable to identify to rare first printing of the 2s for philately. CONDITION Card wraps, 52 pages with illus. Toned and a little handled to covers, clean internally. Good.

London, H G Bohn. 1853, First Edition. Hard Cover, 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Henry Noel Humphreys (1810-1879),[1] was a British illustrator, naturalist, entomologist, and numismatist. Humphreys, who studied medieval manuscripts in Italy as a young man, became an accomplished scholar in numerous subjects. In addition to his entomological texts, Humphreys wrote works on ancient Greek and Roman coins, archaeology, and the art of writing and printing. CONDITION Vol 1 xxiv 352, Vol 2 pp 353 - 726. Red blind embossed cloth, damged to spine ends, back strip lifting to vol 2, tips worn. 65 wood block illus internally, calls for 10 steel engraved plates but only one present which has come unglued but inserted, bright and clean intenally. both copies have subscription library label to front paste down and name to title pages. Overall pretty good copies for age. OVERWEIGHT. Good/N/A.
