Quarto (8" x 10-1/2") bound in full polished calf leather by Casa Calero Madrid with gilt-lettered spine with four raised bands, all edges marbled; xii, 382, [1] pages. Complete with large folding engraved map and 17 hand-colored lithographic plates after Lyon, by M. Gauci, G. Harley, or D. Dighton. Lyon, disguised as a Muslim, left Tripoli to discover the source of the Niger river. The hand-colored plates depict scenes and traditional Libyan clothes. ABBEY TRAVEL, 404. Title page and dedication page with dampstaining and restoration; plates with fine contemporary coloring, one with a closed tear to margin not affecting the image. Hinges starting, covers still firm; rubbing and fading to spine. Very Good .
