. Folio. Thirty mounted plates, of which sixteen in colour, on thick cardboard. As issued loose in original cloth-backed illustrated portfolio with cotton ties. Title page slightly browned but otherwise in excellent condition. First edition. A collection of various Art Nouveau designs for ceramics, decorative panels, furniture, silver and ironworks, jewellery, etc made by famous artists of the time, including Roubille, Brandt, Bacard, Daurat, and Ségaud. There are many textile patterns from this period that date back to earlier centuries. Some of the plates were also published in "Documents de décoration moderne" issued about 1900.

. A large size manual (36 x 25.5 cm). Contains 110 samples, of varies sizes, mounted on heavy paper. Twenty-two leaves bound in fukuro-toji style. Contemporary boards, gold speckled, some discolouration on upper cover, title painted in blue on upper cover.A handsome manual with sophisticated textile samples for male kimonos. The patterns are mainly traditional geometric but there are also some with figurative and floral designs. The colours are discreet, mainly blue, black and various red tones, some with silver elements. We don't know who it belonged to but probably a refined tailor's shop. Due to the numbering (111 to 220), we assume that this is a manual out of several.

Original string binding with blue cloth covers, upper cover with white text. The swatches are dated between 1927 and 1935 so it seems that samples were added year by year as the string binding can be untied and retied.A collection of beautiful coloured silk samples which used to belong to a Japanese manufacturer of high-quality silk. Comprises sixty-three swatches measuring 16.5 x 18.5 cm, twenty-three larger (27.4 x 17.2 cm), five even larger (34 x 24.5 cm) and further six small at the end. Thirteen empty leaves. An impressive well-preserved album with a beautiful collection of stylish textile samples.

. A complete set of a woodblock-printed pattern book richly illustrated with designs and patterns mostly in the Neo-Rinpa style. Comprises 84 leaves with numerous designs beautifully printed, mainly in light and pale colours. Bound in the traditional Japanese fashion. Original paper covers with title hand-written in ink on upper covers. The covers with some staining but internally in fine condition.Furuya Kôrin was the key figure in the development of the Neo-Rinpa style in Japan at this time. The modern design was a combination of the traditional Japanese style and the Art Nouveau ornamental design. Furuya Korin was specialised in creating original woodcuts for this kind of pattern books used in decorative art including textiles, metalwork, carvings and ceramics. Rare, only listed in two western institutions (Cambridge and Cincinnati).

. Oblong 8vo. Size: 25 x 11 cm. Leporello comprising 24 leaves with 232 tipped-in woven cotton samples, mostly striped and check patterns in red and blue, each given a hand-written number in ink. A few samples with some very light staining but overall in very good condition. Original bordeaux coloured cloth, blind-stamped with company name within ornamental frame, with paper label on upper cover, somewhat rubbed. Front end papers decorated in Jugend style.A very neat and well-preserved pattern book belonging to the weaving manufacturer Gröger, Mikulaschek & Co., from Sternberg in Moravia, today Sternberk in Czech Republic. Sternberg was an important centre of cotton and silk industry with more than 1000 mechanical weaving looms around 1900.

. Pp. 223. With 168 plates, of which 80 are b/w and 88 coloured plates pasted in, and two hundred illustrations in the text. The coloured plates have printed captions in Hungarian and German. Some browning to the paper. Some coloured plates (nos 29-36) are bound upside down. Half cloth on marbled paper boards which seems to be contemporary. Original printed front wrapper with pasted vignette bound in. First edition of this comprehensive monograph of the Hungarian szür, the traditional shepherd's mantle, decorated with the typical stylised floral ornamentation. Györffy worked for two decades on this work and collected more than one hundred coats during his travels. Now housed at the National Museum in Budapest. He studied extensively the historical material of the felt mantles, the technical tricks of the craft, and the method of sewing and ornamentation. Györrffy describes the different coat styles and types of flower decoration depending on the area, including Bihar county, Transylvania, the "Kunsâg", the "Hajdœsâg", Debrecen, Upper Hungary and Transdanubia. Rare and interesting work of traditional Hungarian folk embroidery with strikingly colourful illustrations.

Complete but both titles misbound (at pp. 448-9 in volume one and pp. 496-7 in volume two). Contemporary half calf on marbled paper covered boards, spines with four raised bands lettered and decorated in gilt. Marbled edges. Old ownership signature and library stamps on front end papers. A handsome copy.First German edition of "Traité des matieres colorantes" (Paris 1866). It's a comprehensive study of dyes with particular regard to their application in dyeing and printing, as well as with textile fibers and their treatment. The text is accompanied with 79 (usually 78) small coloured fabric samples. Paul Schützenberger (1829-97), a renowned French chemist, primarly known for his research work on textile dyeing and his proposed technological innovations. Besides studies of the natural dyes he was also interested in new synthetic dye molecules for industrial use. . A large-format album (33.5 x 23.5cm) with one hundred beautiful kimono designs, sparsely decorated, woodblock-printed in vivid colours, protected by tissue-guards (slightly darkened). Printed Japanese captions. Contains 52 leaves including title and colophon. Four leaves with small marginal tear and two leaves with minor hole. The leaves are folded in the traditional Japanese fashion. Bound in the original decorated silk-covered wrappers, worn and stained, with some loss of silk. Title label on upper cover, small loss of one character.This impressive zuan-ch› (design) book was produced by Matsuya Clothing Store (predecessor of Matsuya Department Store). Consisting of various award-winning design entries in a competition organised by them. The patterns depicting flowers and plants are very refined and sophisticated. Fine impressions and colours. The first twelve designs are captioned as January - December, and the remaining numbered 13 to 100. Issued by the famous publishing house Uns›d› in Kyoto.
