Publisher's pictorial cloth, richly gilt, designed by Gustave Doré. Old inscription on half title. First edition. Annie Brassey and her husband travelled the world for many years in their private yacht "Sunbeam". Lady Annie wrote four travel accounts which became immensely popular. This narrative treats two voyages; one in the western Mediterranean in 1874 and another in 1878 which went to Cyprus and Constantinople. Blackmer 195. Robinson p. 203.

. Pp. (xii), xxii, 246; (ii), 294, (1). Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering, a small restored notch at upper edge on front cover, minor scratch on the back cover. Bookplate (Dr. H.J. Lundgren). Inscription on rear pastedown. First edition of a scarce work. Eneman (1676-1714) was a Swedish orientalist who served as chaplain in King Karl XII's army. He accompanied the king to Poltava and Bender in 1709 and was later sent to Constantinople as legation preacher. For a few years he travelled extensively in the Near and Middle East. He visited Egypt, Arabia, Palestine and Syria, studying mainly the ecclesiastical and political conditions in those countries. Eneman wrote journals and letters now stored at Upsala University Library and the National Archives. Almost 200 years later Uno Nylander published this work based on the manuscripts, for the International Congress of Orientalists in Stockholm 1889. Callmer, In Orientem pp. 23-31.

Hasselquist, a student of Linné, travelled to the Near East to study the natural history of the countries he visited. He died in Smyrna in 1752 when he was about to return to Sweden.
