Leicester, The Excelsior Press, 1920. 21 cm, Hardcover. 106 pp. No images. Conditie: Fair, Bound by Cross. Binder from Leicester in al full bordeauxred leather binding with gilt details. Leather along spine at the top at the front somewhat split and also starting at the lower front. Faint waterstains on boards and the usual wear considering it's age. Marbled end papers, turn-ins gilt with binders stamp at the front. Watermarks at the top at the front and rear end pages, not touching the other pages. Top edge of pages gilt. Somes pages a little fingersoiled but overall a clean copy considering it's nearly one hundred years old. Very Rare. I could not find any other copies in any collection or for sale. The Queen is a play in five acts and is situated in the Arthurian world. The usual characters like King Arthur, Merlin, Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere and many others play their part in this unknown gem.

Horneman was een jonge Duitser en lid van The African Society, welke in 1788 was opgericht met als doel het verkennen van het binnenland van Afrika. In 1797 vertrok Horneman vanuit Cairo. Hij maakte deel uit van een karavaan richting Mourzouk, gelegen in het hart van de Libische woestijn. Nadat hij in Mourzouk is aangekomen wordt hij ziek en door de dreiging van geweld tegen ongelovigen en de dood van zijn bediende besluit hij terug te keren via Tripoli.
