Two folding plates, each of which is counted as two plates. Portfolio with wear and linnen along spine of portfolio partly split. With ribbons. Text and plates a bit thumbed but overall good. The folding plates depict various views of Fondation Rothschild as well as groundplans. Other plates depict various buildings both from the outside and inside. Plates after both photographs and architectural drawings. Architects of the builidings shown are M.A. Labussière, C. Longerey, G. Guyon, M. Beaudouin, G. Ernest, H. Sauvage and Sarazin. Conditie: Very good, Bound in contemporary full vellum bindings. Title, author and volumenumbers written in ink on spines. Volume one with frontispiece (N. Vercolje pin. – L. Surugue fec.). Frontispiece dated in plate 1729. Page 57 up to 60 of volume one bound after page 64. Titlepages printed in red and black with vignets. Bindings in good condition considering their age. Contents with some foxing, some pages a little browned, and some spots here and there, overall contents in good condition. Katharyne Lescailje (1649-1711) was a remarkable woman. She was a poet, translator, publisher and bookdealer in a time when women did rarely see their work published. The first two volumes are filled with her poetry, the third and last volume contains the seven plays she translated, six of which where staged in the Amsterdam theater.

Daarom wordt er soms elders in plaats van 1898 (zoals vermeld op de titelpagina) ook wel 1893 of 1897 vermeld. (2), 21, (5) blz. In-4., formaat circa 28,3 cm. Totale oplage van 600 genummerde exemplaren, dit is nummer 302 sur vergé d'Arches. Letters in zilveropdruk op kaft. Kaft voorzien van semitransparant papier ter bescherming van het kaft. Zeer goed exemplaar (een van de beste exemplaren die ik gezien heb). Met 10 illustraties in kleur door Paul-Albert Laurens (1870-1934). Zeer fraaie en elegante illustraties in Art Nouveau stijl. Referentienummer 10.831. BIJGEVOEGD: Een suite van 10 illustraties gedrukt op Whatman Turkey Mill 1896 (watermerk) zonder enige tekst. Van het boek zijn er destijds 10 gedrukt op Whatman (genummerd 11 t/m 20), echter onbekend of deze exemplaren ook een extra suite met alleen de afbeeldingen bevatten. Formaat papier wijkt ook af (afmetingen 31 x 25 cm, dus groter dan het boek). Op folder bij één plaat in de blanco marge initialen gezet met potlood. (PAL). Zeldzaam. Referentienummer A452. Foto waarop het boek en de suite van 10 illustraties is afgebeeld is een collage (onderlinge verhoudingen niet weergegeven, suite in werkelijkheid dus groter dan boek).

Frances Macnabs A Ride in Marocco contains the intriguing narrative of her journey on horseback through that country, at the turn of the century. No pioneering expedition this rather, a leisurely ride between the major centres of population, dropping in on other Europeans along the way. Picture, then, a haughty British woman progressing on horseback from Tangier down to Marrakesh, enjoying a somewhat testy relationship with the native population and generally getting her own way. This is Ms Macnab at her best opinionated and brooking no nonsense, she ride imperiously among the inhabitants noting with a keen eye every detail of their lives and manners. She is, however, not blind to the beauties of the landscape, nor to the more endearing qualities of the people she meets. Her narrative retains a lasting charm and this facsimile of the first edition, published in 1902, will be welcomed by a wide readership.
