A poster map published by the GLC in cooperation with the Government and Transport Authorities and printed by Cook, Hammond and Kell, London circa 1982. On paper size 101 by 63 cm. Colour. The poster warns of areas of London at risk of future Thames flooding. The map covers the river from Hampton to Erith and Dartford and an area of London north to Wood Green and south to Mitcham and Bromley. A key provides information on British Rail lines and underground lines liable to be closed in the event of flooding; BR and underground stations liable to be closed and terminal points for rail and tube services if lines are closed. In full red leather binding size 18.5 by 12 cm. 293 pages. All edges marbled and with marbled endpapers. Gold-stamped decoration to front board and spine. The front board also has a gold-tooled banner with a Latin motto (Beati Mundo Corde or Blessed are the Pure in Heart a line from Dante with a reference to the fable of the wolf and the crane. There is a plain white plate pasted over the inside of the front endpaper which may have been used to cover a bookplate and the book would appear to be a prize binding. Good to VG condition with minor rubbing to head and foot of spine. Images available.

Four large maps on folding linen each 106 by 90 cm. and each in 35 sections. A key provides information on cities market towns parishes and other townships hamlets rivers gentlemen's seats churches (and these are shown in 3 different categories) parks mail roads turnpike roads canals rail roads mountains and various administrative divisions. A second key in the form of a series of crests gives details of the 20 dioceses in the province of Canterbury and the 5 in the province of York. The North-West sheet has a large engraving of the London Post Office and the North-East sheet a decorative compass rose beneath the title and key. All maps are in their original leather boards with the titles of the four maps gold-stamped to the spines in a decorative binding. Some rubbing to the head and foot of 3 of the spines but all bindings and boards sound and overall a very detailed set of maps in VG condition. Images available.
