Maps drawn by John Bartholomew published by A Fullarton London & Edinburgh circa 1870. Scale four miles to the inch. Average size of each map in the set 74 by 53 cm and most are in eight sections. Those of the English Channel area (maps 16 A B and C) are smaller but to the same scale. Full colour. A very detailed collection of maps which show all railways completed and in progress. Lacks map number 13 London and the south-east. though a facsimile is available. Maps VG slipcase Good to fair with wear and with the top detached. The case is 27.5 by 20 cm and 6 cm deep. Size 49 by 40 cm. scale 100 feet to the inch. On paper that has been pasted on card. Some hand-colouring. A very detailed map covering an area south from St.Martins Street and Chandos Street to Charing Cross and the Strand with plans for the Royal Academy facing the National Gallery where Trafalgar Square is now. Damp staining has affected three edges and parts of the map. An interesting survivor which could merit some restoration and might be useful for research. Images available.

London, The Bodley Head. 1925. Book, The Uncollected Work of Aubrey Beardsley published by the Bodley Head London 1925. A 1st edition. With an introduction by C Lewis Hind. In stiff decorated boards size 29 by 22 cm. 162 pages of plates some in colour plus a 26-page introduction and another 162 pages which guard the plates and have the title and source of each illustration but are otherwise plain. Some plates are double page including a series from Morte d'Arthur. The notes accompanying the illustrations state that many had never been previously reproduced and these include sketches for programmes for home entertainments. Two colour plates foxed to borders and reverse and several others foxed outside the margins of the illustration. Condition Good with one chip to the top of the back board and a rather worn dust-wrapper. A heavy tome weighing in at aroud 3 kg. Images available.

A 1st edition in six volumes size 22 by 14 cm. In original full leather binding with gold decoration to spines marbled endpapers etc. Illustrated by a complete set of maps and other engravings (which includes 42 folding maps and an engraving of the world's major mountains that appears to have the height of an unnamed Everest to within a few hundred feet). Recent restoration to heads of the spines. Minor foxing mainly to endpapers which also bear the stamp of the Brazilian consulate in Cardiff and to reverse and borders of some of the engravings & maps. Sympathetic restoration to the heads and feet of the spines. Dedication in ink to free front endpaper of Vol.I dated 1946 but more interestingly there is also a dedication in pencil to the front endpaper of Vol. II dated 1836. A fascinating set in Good condition. Images available.
