The Old Sport and Other Verses - Privately Printed - Signed by Author
Privately Pinted for the Author By Oliver and Boyd, 1934. Hardcover. The author was a well known Obstetrician and Gynaecologistr in Edinburgh who died in retirement in 1941. Outside his profession Dr. Fordyce had many interests. He was a keen fisherman and golfer, and enjoyed curling. His turn for the writing of light verse was well known to a wide circle of friends, and he often sang or recited his own compositions at medical and other dinners. Of these he was persuaded to publish privately a selection in a small volume entitled The Old Sport and Other Verses (B.M.J. Obituary). A mightyt fish, I said, is this, 'Twas perfect rapture, perfect bliss; with knocking knees I held him tight. The book was privately published and most copies seem to have been signed bu the author - this copy to Aesculapian Struthers from W. Fordyce 'Xmas/34. This copy is clean and tight in oroginal prusssian blue cloth boards with gilt titling on spine. See scans . Very Good +

Ordnance Survey, 0. . Large folded Ordnance Survey map of Kirkcudbrightshire scale 1 to the Mile titled Index to the Ordnance Survey of Kirkcudbrightshire. Undated but issued c.1854-1875 in two parts - east and west this map has both parts bound together and mounted and dissected on linen measuring 49 1/2 x 40 ( 126 x 101cms). Boundaries of parishes are outlined with a coloured a hand wash. Folds to 10 x 6 (16x26cms). Booksellers label on front board W.T.Hansbrow, agent to the Honourable board of Ordnance, 59 King Street, Manchester, Blind embossed boards rubbed with corner wear and early splitting top of hinge but generally firm. Green agents label rubbed but legible. Decorative endpaper. The map has no tears at folds but is dusty with some superficial marks. No signatures or annotations.
