Translated from the French by B. Bardwell. Series editor Marc Vokaer writes in an introductory note: "The Grand-Place has the same attraction for the traveller passing through Brussels as St. Mark's Square has for the visitor to Venice. Both sites have this characteristic in common: despite the differences in style between the contrasting elements of their buildings a harmonious architectural unity has finally been achieved. It is worth a visit for its art alone. But..for anyone interested in history, its past is a mine of information concerning the origins of Brussels and the life of the city." . Good .
