Ian Charles was the eighth Earl of Seafield and the twenty-seventh Chief of Clan Grant, a Highland Scottish Clan who claim descent from Alpin, father of Kenneth MacAlpin, first King of Scots, though numerous other origin theories exist however, including Norman or Norse emanation. As his parents' only child, his death meant that his mother Caroline Stuart became the sole proprietor of the Seafield Estates. She has been described as "The last of the great feudal chiefs". Rebacked in the original full cloth binding with a contemporary cloth spine. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound.
