Esberg compiles replies to a letter he sent to "a representative group of Americans," Feb. 14, 1944, wherein he asks, "What should be our attitude, and what should be our local and state and national policies regarding the Japanese, both now and post war?" Esberg further notes, "While it will butter no parsnips for us at this time to look at the dirt on our own hands, it may make us better poised for future practical action if we consider what we have done to earn this race and color hatred - which is not limited to the Japanese mind." Presentient, yes?.
