Reusachtig, koffietafelgroot en erg grappig boek over de grote hobby van typograaf en letterontwerper William A. Dwiggins (1880-1956): marionetten maken naar het uiterlijk van zijn vrienden en kennissen, en daar voorstellingen mee geven. Dorothy Abbe was jarenlang Dwiggins' assistente. Zij erfde de poppen van Dwiggins' vrouw en stelde er dit boek van samen, met de veelal door haar gemaakte foto's. In dit exemplaar liggen drie originele foto's gemaakt door 'D.A.', Dorothy Abbe dus, een van 26,0 x 33,0 cm waarop het door Dwiggins speciaal gebouwde theater te zien is. Achterop staan typografische aanwijzingen in pen, en in potlood 'Dwiggins Studio', het adres en 'Photo by D.A.', mogelijk geschreven door de fotografe. Deze foto is niet gaaf, er zitten enkele kreukjes in en de onderhoeken zijn omgevouwen. De tweede foto (17,0 x 12,5 cm) is gaaf en vertoont een geheel ontklede marionet, met achterop 'photo by D.A.'. De derde foto (25,0 x 13,0 cm) is leuk, en in heel redelijke staat, en vertoont William Dwiggins met de door hem gemaakte marionet van zichzelf op zijn knie. Achterop staat in potlood 'Photo by D.A./ c. 1939' plus typografische aanwijzingen in balpen. Er is een geel plakkertje op de achterkant aangebracht met in het handschrift van Will van Krimpen 'Herinnering aan veel clams en whisky sours met Dorothy 1968'! Kennelijk zijn de foto's gebruikt in een tijdschriftartikel, maar dat kon ik niet achterhalen. Ook met een (lege) gepostzegelde envelop geadresseerd aan 'Mr + Mrs Huib van Krimpen' met achterop het gedrukte adres '45 Irving Street/ Hingham' van het theater annex studio van Dwiggins.
