Unusual copy of this work, the two volumes bound together with additional plates etc, relating to H W F Blockow and his residence at Marton Hall, Middlesbrough (later Stewart Park and the location of James Cook). Includes bound in signed and mailed post-card from the author to a Mr Sheppard: "Danby Sept 17. 97. The work never was completed, the parts named by you were all that were published. J C Atkinson". Volume I was published in parts (1-14) between 1872 and 1874. Blockow died in 1874 The never completed Volume II was published in further parts 15-19 in 1877. The author died in 1900. Rebound in dark red covers in or after 1897, gilt lettering on the spine, cover edges are rubbed, binding is a little pulled between pages 257 and 272 with some loose pages. Foxing to prelims and occasionally lightly elsewhere (heavy foxing on a few plates is detailed below), pages and plates are otherwise clean.
