Indiana University / Wells, Ben H. , Ed.
Arbutus 1925 (Yearbook for Indiana University, 1926) Published for the Seniors by the Class of 1926.
Bloomington. Bloomington: Indiana University, 1925. Hardcover. Two tiny tears to head of spine, no other defects. Unusual and attractive embossed and heavily decorated cloth covers. This is a beautiful Indiana University yearbook, for the year 1925. You've heard of the roaring twenties? This is what they were like at a Midwestern University situated in Bloomington, a small town in Indiana. It was in this town and at this time that Hoagy (more correctly, "Hoagland") Carmichael grew up and later returned to for his university study. He appears in at least three photos in this beautiful yearbook: as a member of Kappa Sigma, where he was wearing a mustache; dressed completely in monkey costume, acting in some unidentified function; and in a photo in the tiny "Music" section captioned "Oogie Oogie Wah Wah, two self-styled campus nuts, " clearly him, though not identified by name, with a friend. 4to 11" - 13" tall. 432 pages. M7. Near Fine.
