London, John Mason, 1839. Cloth. A very scare copy of this interesting work on the former Wesleyan Proprietary Grammar School, with an folding frontispiece showing an illustration of the school. A very scarce work. This work was published upon the opening of the Wesleyan Proprietary Grammar School in Sheffield, intended to thank the people who contributed to its opening, and to set out the goal and discipline of the school. It includes a list of the directors, trustees, officers, proprietors, as well as a list of the initial students enrolled. The school was in competition with Church of England's Sheffield Collegiate School, which had opened a couple of years prior. In 1884 the two schools merged, re-naming themselves to Wesley College. Again in 1905 they merged with the Sheffield Royal Grammar School, changing their name again to King Edward II School. With a folding frontispiece of the Sheffield Wesleyan Proprietary Grammar School. Collated, complete. In the original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light markings to the boards, mostly to the rear board. A little fading to the head of the rear board and to the rear joint. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, which has resulted in just a little loss to the head, with light bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the very odd scattered spot and handling mark, and light offsetting to the half-title page due to the frontispiece. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .

Featuring four full page plates of illustrations. In a charming full calf school prize binding signed Relfe Brothers, awarded to J. V. Wotton for mathematics in 1901. In a full calf school prize binding with five raised bands and gilt tooling to the spine, blind stamp in gilt to the front board, marbled edges and new marbled endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, a touch of sunning to the spine, light rubbing to the spine and extremities. School prize ink inscription to a front blank leaf, dated 1901. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting affecting the first and last few leaves in particular, otherwise the pages are generally very clean throughout. Illustrated with four full page plates. This informative work was published on the Golden Jubilee of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha shipping company, based in Japan and founded in 1885. This grand, global company is still running to this day, with the headquarters located in Chiyoda, Tokyo. This historical book is filled with information on NYK, from the early years to its various expansions, to the effect of the European war on the company. With many illustrations throughout, some of which are in colour, including photographs of previous directors and staff, as well as copious images of the vessels used for shipping. A contemporary ink inscription dated 1938 to the front endpaper.
