GOOD condition. Cloth rather mottled, with uneven moderate fading and darkening. Minor soiling. Cloth frayed and worn along the extremities, with minor loss at the tail of the spine. Each described here separately. With a fold out map of Africa at the frontis (engraved by Stanley Hall) of volume 1 and three illustrations (black and white) as called for. 374 numbered pages, 2 blank front and rear endpapers, title page, table contents, and a page of a list of authorities (a sort of bibliography). Half leather with marbled boards, four raised bands on the spine as well as gilt titling, ruling and minor ornamentation. Written as an historical travelogue, this volume offers a rather Eurocentric view of Africa ranging from ancient discoveries, to discussions of life in Tripoli, Cyrene, Tunis, Bizerta, Tabarca, Algiers, Morocco, the bombardment pf Algiers by the British fleet, treatment of Christian slaves, etc. In VERY GOOD condition. Some scuffing and fading to the boards. Very minor soiling. Extremities scuffed with corners rounded. Spine with light rubbing to the head and foot. Small attractive bookplate of Thomas Henry Graham in the front cover. Binding tight. Text is clean with minor darkening to the pages, a very faint hint of foxing to a few pages, some ghosting of the map border onto the title page as well as from the bookplate onto the facing ffep. Small tear at lower fold line of the map. Attractive copy of this work in VERY GOOD condition. VOLUME 2 AS FOLLOWS: With six illustrations (black and white) as called for. 348 numbered pages. Half leather with marbled boards, four raised bands on the spine as well as gilt titling, ruling and minor ornamentation. Written as an historical travelogue, this volume offers a rather Eurocentric view of Africa ranging from ancient discoveries to native peoples, to discussions of Mequinez, Fez, Morocco, Mount Atlas, Black Mountains, the Tuaricks, the Tibboos, Dar Foor [Darfur], etc. In VERY GOOD condition. Some scuffing and fading to the boards. Very minor soiling. Extremities scuffed with corners rounded and some minor loss of leather at the corners. Spine rubbed at the head and foot with minor scuffing and a few tiny paint speckles. Some scuffing along the hinges. Small attractive bookplate of John Fort of Read Hall in the front cover. Binding tight. Text is clean with minor darkening to the pages and a faint hint of foxing to a few pages. Attractive copy of this work in VERY GOOD condition. Very Good/No Jacket.

In original wraps, with a cover illustration of a hunter with his rifle and dog, as well as several game animals. 52 numbered pages plus several unnumbered index pages and several unnumbered pages of ads in the rear. This volume offers tales and advice on hunting and fishing, as well items on horse racing, many articles on hunting with hounds, an article on hunting in Canada, on hunting tiger, and hunting in the Orient, etc. It also contains a list of winning horses for the year 1836. This magazine continued the magazine 'The Sportsman and Veterinary Recorder' and was replaced with New sporting magazine, Sporting review, and from July 1846, Sporting magazine [British Library records]. This volume lacks the one illustrated plate and has a two by 2 ½ inch piece cut out of an article on page 39/40 and a 2 ½ inch by 7 inch column cut out on page 41/42. In POOR/FAIR condition. Minor soiling to the covers. Moderate to heavy fading and scuffing. Heavy tattering to the extremities including the spine and the pages of the magazine themselves. Several small chips and tears present to the covers. Cover is DETACHED from the text. The text block is saddle stitched and is weak but still intact. Text is clean with minor darkening to the pages. The pages of ads in the rear are unopened. A rather hard to find hunting journal in POOR/FAIR condition. Photos available upon request. Poor .

Light blue paper, with black and white photos on one side and a color map of Europe on the other. Edited by the C.I.C.E. (Centre d'information des Chemins de Fer Europeens), this is a promotional piece advertising travel through Europe by rail, discussing features and comforts of train travel (with photos). With a large map on the reverse depicting basic rail lines between countries and cities in Europe (and North Africa). Germany is not divided into East and West Germany on the map, perhaps indicating a pre World War II date. GOOD condition. Uneven fading and toning, with some soiling, minor foxing and a few tiny stains. Some scuffing along the extremities. Good .
