A beautiful catalog for a jeweler in Washington Court House, Ohio, it displayed an array of stunning, Edwardian-style jewelry pieces - brooches, pendants, rings, lockets, scarf pins, and pocket watches - all with short descriptions and prices. It also contained information on caring for one's jewelry, birth month gems, wedding anniversary gifts, etc. .

Illustrated Catalogue and Price-List of the Eureka Incubator & Brooder, 1886-87

First edition; 5 3/4 x 4 3/4; pp. [1], 4-80; light-brown wraps, printed and rled in black; small chips to corners; thin splits and loss of paper to tips of spine, else wraps and pages bright and clean; illustrated with numerous woodcuts; very good- condition. Also included is a tipped-in leaflet by the author, titled "Moisture Gauge." J. L. Campbell (1846 - ?) began his career in the early 1870s building coal barges. He started pattenting and manufacturing incubators in 1878 and rapidly became one of the leading names in the business. He also made bread-raisers (described in the catalog, as well). His current, 9th, catalog included descriptions, plans, specifications, prices, illustrations, advice for the buyers, testimonials, etc. Interestingly enough, the front wrap featured the following text: "Owing to the large number of catalogues that we have to send to those who do not buy, we are compelled to charge for them. Keep the book clean, and if you think it is not worth the price, return it, and we will gladly return you the five cents." . Very good .

A lovely trade catalog for this early-20th-century, direct-sales manufacturer of gloves, hosiery, and underwear, it showcased, with descriptions and prices, the company's best-sellers and newest wares, including the shadowless pure silk full-fashioned hosiery, the step in pantie, the twin panel built-up shoulder slip, the up-lift brassiere, and the bloomer. Though mostly dedicated to women's undergarments, the catalog also featured the famous non-run men's union suit, men's hose, and children's band pantie. Very good .

Price List of Jas. S. Kirk & Co. 's Laundry & Toilet Soaps, August 1st, 1883
Philadelphia, Janney & Andrews, Importers, Wholesale Grocers, and Tea Dealers, 1883. First Edition. First edition; 5 3/4 x 3 3/4; pp. 1-20; salmon-colored wraps, tied with a string, printed and ruled in black; minor fading to wraps; light creasing to upper left corner; in very good or better condition. Presented by Janney & Andrews - a large wholesale operation in Philadelphia in the late 19th century - the price list represented the astonishing array of products of James S. Kirk & Company - one of the largest soap manufacturers in the world in the 1880s. James Kirk founded the company in 1839 in Utica, New York, moved it to Chicago in 1859, and by the turn of the century, it employed 600 workers and made approximately 100 million pounds of soap per year. In 1929, at the beginning of the Great Depression, the manufacturing plant was demolished and the business was sold to Proctor & Gamble. Apart from the price list for over a 100 different soaps, the booklet also contained a large, 9-page table of "free delivery points" (cities) throughout various states. Very good .

The manufacturer, The General Fireproofing Company, was founded in 1902 and initially made building materials. It later expanded and became well-known for building steel office furniture and fireproof safes and filing cabinets. It also manufactured aircraft parts during the Second World War. The business filed for bancruptcy in 1989. The current catalog included descriptions, dimensions, and images of various file cabinets and cases, including "Correspondence File," "Tabulating System File," "Card Index File," and so on. Very good .

First edition, large brochure; 11 x 8 1/2; pp. [4]; glossy stock, illustrated from photographs; a few small cuts and nicks to edges and thin, closed splits to tips of spine; in good to very good condition. Quite large and elaborate, the brochure advertised the Librastile - "labeled like a book - looks like a book - rests on a shelf like a book - and it is easy to locate and grasp..a time-saver, a temper-saver, a close aid to the man who does things." In essence, an expandable file folder, it was designed to look like a book, when shelved, and could accomodate two different sizes of papers. The brochure also featured another company product - the Safe-Cabinet - used to "classify records the importance of which necessitates sage-keeping." According to the manufacturers, the combination of the two inventions proved the utmost efficiency. Good .

The DeVilbiss Manufacturing Company

London, The DeVilbiss Mfg. Co. 1913. Brochure, n. d. (ca 1913); Half-fold then Double-parallel fold, 8 pannels, 9 1/2 x 7 unfolded; cream stock, illustrated with monochrome images on orange background; a few small cuts to edges of folds; in very good condition. Dr. Allen DeVilbiss (1840 - 1917) was an inventor and Toledo's first ear, nose, and throat specialist. While treating patients in the rural communities around the city, the doctor was dissatisfied with the lack of a device for easy application of medicines to people's throats and noses. In 1888, he developed an atomizer with a hollow rubber ball, a metal jar, and a small tube for the quick dispersal and coating of the throats with drugs. His invention was so successful that by 1890, he retired from his medical practice and founded the DeVilbiss Manufacturing Company. He would soon branch into manufacturing perfume atomizers (perfumizers), and the first practical, compressed-air, paint spray guns for the automotive industry, protective coating for military equipment, etc. By the early 20th century, DeVilbiss had branches in Toledo, New York, London (where the current sample catalog was printed), and several other big cities. The brochure listed and beautifully-illustrated 9 nebulizers, atomizers, and perfumizers with inventory numbers and short descriptions. Very good .

(ca 1855); 7 1/4 x 4 3/4; pp. [2], 3-32; rebound in marbled wraps, with the original back wrap preserved; illustrated with numerous woodcuts; a few minor smudges to margins; text block a bit wobbly; rear endpaper with loss of paper to bottom margin; in good to very good condition. A beautiful trade catalog of art supplies, it was issued in the mid-19th century by Winsor and Newton - manufacturers of a wide range of high-quality, fine-art products. Founded in 1832 by chemist William Winsor and artist Henry Newton, the company would develop the first moist watercolors, utilizing the moisture-retaining properties of glycerine. Gaining rapid and well-deserved popularity would lead to their appointment as "Artists' Colourmen to Queen Victoria" in 1841. The company would subsequently pioneer and patent several other art supplies, including glass syringes to replace bladders as oil color containers and the first screw cap mechanism for a collapsible metal tube. Two engravings at the beginnng of the catalog represented the medal they would win at the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in 1851 - the only prize to be awarded for artists' colors. The company would also make and retail brushes, drawing papers, sketching portfolios, etc. Many of these products, including paints in collapsible tubes, watercolors in lavish mahogany boxes, fine sable brushes, and so on, were pictured and described with properties and prices in the current catalog.
