Printed for Charles Brome, at the Gun at the West End of St. Pauls,, 1697. 8vo., First Edition, some general age-staining throughout (but all text wholly clear and legible), wanting front and rear free endpapers; strongly bound in eighteenth century panelled calf tooled in blind, back with raised bands, uncut, boards mildly age-worn and marked, corners moderately bruised else a crisp, relatively clean copy in wholly unrestored period binding. With 3pp publisher's advertisement at end. This copy was formerly in the library of one George Humphreys. It carries a lengthy signed holograph inscription (dated 1771) on front paste-down, and a charming verse (dated 29 September 1771) on rear paste-down: 'George is my Name, Earth is my Nation, Heaven is my Dwelling Place and this is my Generation'. COPAC lists above severnteen copies in the UK.

Lazari, Venice,, 1823. 12mo., Second Edition, with engraved portrait frontispiece (original tissue guard present), neat contemporary signature on front paste-down, some light marginal spotting; contemporary mottled red and brown calf, sides with floral frame border in gilt, back tooled and ruled in gilt, second compartment with red leather label lettered and ruled in gilt, gilt edgesexpertly rebacked with old backstrip laid down, a very good, bright, clean copy. With fine early nineteenth century engraved armorial bookplate bearing the widespread motto 'pro aris et focis'. This scarce work contains the twenty-four prayers and orisons of the Armenian patriarch Nerses IV or Saint Nerses the Gracious (1102-1173), a younger contemporary of St. Bernard of Clairvaux. Effectively a type specimen book, it was printed at the Armenian monastery on the isle of St. Lazarus off Venice and presents the prayers in no fewer than 24 different languages, including Dutch, Gaelic, Hungarian, Spanish and Russian. The collection was first issued in 1818 with the prayers present in fourteen languages; a fourth edition (1837) was several times reprinted. Brunet IV, 859; Nersessian 510.

Longman Brown Green & Longmans,, 1849. 2 vols., 8vo., First Edition; handsomely bound in late-nineteenth century full tan calf BY ANDREW GRIEVE , sides with double frame border enclosing decorative frame stopped at corners with floral sprays all in gilt, backs with five raised bands tooled in gilt, second and third compartments with red and green leather labels ruled and lettered in gilt, all other compartments elaborately tooled and blocked in gilt, gilt doublures, marbled edges, marbled endpapers, a splendid set from a notable Scotish house. The binding is signed on front free endpaper versos. Andrew Grieve of Edinburgh produced his best work in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. He was particularly noted for his panelled bindings, of which there are several fine examples in the BL. A gifted teacher-mentor, he nurtured many apprentices, among them Charles McLeish the Elder who went on to work first for Riviere and, most notably, for Doves under Cobden-Sanderson before establishing his own bindery in London in 1909.
