One of around 40 linked catalogues issued by GEC under its various brand names, covering a huge range of commercial and domestic products. This catalogue includes a wide range of appliances and accessories, including an adaptor allowing a toaster or kettle to be plugged into a light socket without removing the bulb (there is no advice on the likely safety consquences or indeed how long it would take the kettle to boil).

A nice little catalogue of gas governors and burners for gas lighting. The firm were based at Maze Pond, now the site of the Tower Wing of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. Their phone number was HOP 1471 - that area of Southwark had a number of hop merchants, hence the name of the exchange.

Beautifully presented trade catalogue from this well known window manufacturer. The first part is devoted to techical specification of the company's products, with very large scale and clear illustrations, while the final 75 pages are photos of the many buildings across the world where their windows had been installed. London's County Hall, Bourne and Hollingsworth's new department store on Oxford Street, commercial and municipal buildings in Rotterdam, Buenos Aires and Shanghai, Universities in North America and the newly built clubhouse at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York all feature among many others.

THE HOTEL METROPOLE
Hotel Métropole (Northumberland Avenue) London: A Souvenir
London, Chiswick Press 1889 78pp, many illustrations, lots of contemporary advertisements. 18x12, illustrated wraps Binding cracked, spine of wraps torn with small tape repair, otherwise very good. Opened in 1885, the Metropole was one of the most modern of London's late Victorian hotels. After being requisitioned in both World Wars for Government use it remained as offices for the Ministry of Defence until 2007, before being reopened as the Corinthia Hotel in 2011. The advertisements feature many famous brands - Kodak, Louis Vuitton, Pears as endorsed by Lillie Langtry no less, and many others.
