The title page continues, "with their lives compiled from the works of the best informed and modern writers extant, manuscript as well as printed, containing many curious biographical anecdotes and particulars never before published, the whole authenticated with notes, references, and observations." A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy. Bound in stiff cardboard, chipped along the edges, scuffed and rubbed a bit but intact, burgundy cloth tape to spine, also scuffed and rubbed a bit. Paper label of short title to front cover, abraded a bit but fully intact. Royal quarto format of original boards, bookseller label inside front flap at bottom. Printed for the bookseller Robert Wilkinson, London, 1798.
