Full page authors portrait engraved by Levasseur, after the painting by Kymli. An interesting and early, [lengthy] treatise on "Maladies Nerveuses" by the French King's, Chief Medecin Consultant. Amongst other diseases he comes with: Vomitting, Venerial Diseases, Delirium, Epilectic Strokes, Hysteria, Spasmodic Fevers, Coliques, etc. etc. As a cure he proposes amongst other things, "a good cup of turtle soup or any other strong bouillon".. He also gives some detailed case histories. The first edition by the "precursor of psychiatry" appeared in 1767. [Lyon] We can look upon this work as "New Hysteria Studies" of Enlightenment Medicine. Original full calf, spine richly gilded, red painted edges.
