This title was originally published as a single poem in 1902. This volume adds a number of additional poems. "Edward Robeson Taylor (September 24, 1838 – July 5, 1923) was the 28th Mayor of San Francisco serving from July 16, 1907 to January 7, 1910. Edward Robeson Taylor was born on September 24, 1838 in Springfield, Illinois, the only son of Henry West Taylor and the former Mary Thaw of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (he was descended on his mother's side from the early colonial merchant, Andrew Robeson, of Philadelphia. ) He was a lawyer and a poet in California before he became mayor, publishing an 1898 book of sonnets based on the paintings of William Keith. "Idylls of the King, published between 1859 and 1885, is a cycle of twelve narrative poems by the English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809–1892; Poet Laureate from 1850) which retells the legend of King Arthur, his knights, his love for Guinevere and her tragic betrayal of him, and the rise and fall of Arthur's kingdom. The whole work recounts Arthur's attempt and failure to lift up mankind and create a perfect kingdom, from his coming to power to his death at the hands of the traitor Mordred. Individual poems detail the deeds of various knights, including Lancelot, Geraint, Galahad, and Balin and Balan, and also Merlin and the Lady of the Lake. The book is in Very Good- condition and is lacking a dust jacket. There is some lightish rubbing and bumping to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The book covers have some generalized toning, especially to the edges. The paper label is noticeably toned and has some chipping to the bottom front corner and edge. The text pages are generally clean and bright, though the last 20 or so pages have some more noticeable toning. Included is a pictorial portrait frontispice, from a photograph by Duncan Williams, of the author with a facsimile signature. The photo is in clean, bright condition, but the tissueguard has noticeable toning. This is the author's first published book of poems under his own name (instead of the Edward Eastaway name) , and was published about 6 months after his death on the western front of the First World War. This edition was published in an edition of 525 copies (under the Selwyn & Blount Imprint, with an equal number of copies published in the United States by Henry Holt Company. This is one of Thomas's scarcest titles, and is in the original paper covered boards. Included is Adlestrop, one of Thomas's most famous poems. "Philip Edward Thomas (3 March 1878 – 9 April 1917) was a British writer of poetry and prose. He is sometimes considered a war poet, although few of his poems deal directly with his war experiences. He only started writing poetry at the age of 36, but by that time he had already been a prolific critic, biographer, nature writer and travel writer for two decades. He died after a lingering illness of that fell destroyer of so many bight ambitious, and beautiful youths - consumption."
