Royal edition. Containing crossword, news stories, sports results, deaths, births, marriages, advertisements, and more. Illustrated throughout with numerous monochrome photographs and illustrations in the text. Also including a loosely inserted copy of the Daily Mail, dated September 26th, 1935, and a commemorative supplement from the Daily Mail, celebrating the Silver Jubilee of George V, printed on silver paper and dated May 6th 1935. Bound from the parts. In a cloth binding. Externally sound, though with marks and some bumping to the spine and corners. Correctional fluid to spine. Internally, generally firmly bound, although tender in a couple of places. First few pages creased. Institutional ink stamps to the title pages of each edition. A few small closed tears in places, with significant edge wear to the inserted supplements. Large closed tear to p.24 of the 20th November issue. La Vie Parisienne was a French weekly magazine founded in Paris in 1863 and was published until 1970. The articles covered reviews of novels, sports, theater, music and the arts, with short stories, veiled gossip and fashion banter added later. Notable contributors include: George Barbier, Colette, Fabien Fabiano, Henry Gerbault, Gerda Wegener, and many others. This volume contains each weekly issue from the year 1897 from 2nd January to 25th December. Bound in half brown crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally, smart with rubbing to the extremities and loss of the leather to the board tips. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot or handling mark. Light tide marks to the rear pages. Age toning to the endpapers. Illustrated with numerous black and white engravings. This is the first year of 'The Weekly Visitor&apos. (Previously, it was 'The Visitor or Monthly Instructer&apos.) This magazine combined its strong Christian subject-matter with essays on Natural History, Science and Travel. In a half calf binding with marbled paper boards. There is some wear to the extremities including rubbing, bumping on the corners and fading to the marble paper boards. The binding is tight and firm with both covers and all pages securely attached. Internally the pages are generally clean and bright with the odd brown spot or handling mark; this is slightly more pronounced on the endpapers. The present collection containing consecutive numbers from April 1898 to March 1900. With 'true tales' of adventure and travel stories from around the world. This collection includes instalments from the celebrated story of 'The Adventures of Louis de Rougemont' among others; described as "the most amazing story a man ever lived to tell", it tells the story of a man who spent thirty years in the outback of Australia (later exposed as a hoax). Largely illustrated with numerous black and white photographic plates and other illustrations in text by numerous artists including Terence Cuneo, Gordon Browne, and William Barnes Wollen among others. Contributors include Fred Singer, M. London , Richard Bentley, 1878-1881. Leather. Three volumes of the nineteenth century periodical The Argosy Magazine. Volume XXV, XXVII and XXXIII from the years 18678, 1879 and 1881. The Argosy was originally founded by Alexander Strahan in 1865 but was later bought, owned and edited by Ellen Wood. The Argosy published several stories and serials by leading authors of the time as well as amusing quotations, excerpts and cartoons. With hundreds of vignette illustrations and full page plates throughout. Ellen Wood was better known as Mrs Henry Wood. aside from her editorial work she is best remembered for her 1861 novel East Lynne. Many of her books became international best-sellers and her work was very well received in America. She purchased The Argosy in 1867 and her writing tone has often been described as conservative, Christian, with the occasional use of religious rhetoric. Other notable contributors to The Argosy include Hesba Stretton, Julia Kavanagh, Christina Rossetti, Sarah Doudney and Rosa Nouchette Carey. In half calf bindings. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the joints and spines. Some rubbing to paper covered boards also. Front joint to 1878 volume is slightly strained but firm.
