The drama evolves around the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral during the reign of Henry VII. TS Eliot was inspired by the writing of a witness, Edward Grim. Inscribed by a previous owner to the front free endpaper, undated, as well as by minor scholarly notes in pencil to the occasional page.
