Near contemporary half morocco gilt, raised bands, two calf gilt spine labels to each volume, marbled eps, matching cloth sides, aeg. Wear to some corners; joints rubbed; staining to boards; light spotting to feps and plates. Arguably the greatest of the Durham histories, but not easy reading! James Raine produced a further volume on North Durham in 1858 which is sold individually or added to the four volume set. A facsimile reprint, slightly reduced in size was issued by E P Publishers in 1972 and is available from stock.
