LUCAS, JOHN
Reggie - the Life of Reginald Goodall

A near Fine copy (Fine apart from small marginal lines to six pages) with Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. xvi + 252 pages. 35 illustrations. Discography. Choir Repertory of St. Alban the Martyr. Works conducted by Goodall with the Wessex Philharmonic. Sir Reginald Goodall 1901-1990 was one of the greatest Wagner conductors of our times. Now, with the help of letters, diaries and interviews with his friends and colleagues, John Lucas has pieced together the life of this enigmatic, self-effacing figure. Though admired by such great conductors as Erich Kleiber and Otto Klemperer, and singers like Jon Vickers, he suffered years of neglect. Indeed he might have died in obscurity had he not been asked at the age of 66 to conduct first The Mastersingers and then The Ring for the Sadler's Wells company, performances which are now legendary.
