Olympia, WA, Sub Pop, Publisher. Wraps. no date. Illustrated wraps, side stapled. Cover art by Charles Burns. 16 pages including covers. 4 by 2 5/8 inches. Gray cassette in black case, with handwritten 1 and 2 on each side of the tape, written inside small circular stickers. A single issue of this music fanzine, dedicated to underground, indie music. This endeavor would eventually lead to the establishment of the Sub Pop record label that signed acts such as Nirvana, Mudhoney and others related to the Grunge music genre, becoming a huge influence in rock music. Bruce Pavitt established Subterranean (Sub) Pop while a student at Evergreen College in Olympia. Issue five of the Sub Pop fanzine, issued in cassette tape form, with the fanzine consisting of the insert included with the tape. This marked the first time that the zine was issued in cassette form, which Pavitt would continue to do, alternating between cassette and fanzine format. The cassette features music from Visible Targets, Beakers, Doug Kahn, Cool Rays, Pell Mell, Jungle Nausea, Oil Tasters, Church of the Subgenius, etc. About VERY GOOD condition. Minor browning and faint staining to the rear cover of the zine insert. Light curling and wrinkling at the corners. Several small notations in pencil in the interior, apparently marking the minutes of the tape. Some scuffing to the clear cover of the cassette tape case, with a small area of hardened, faint residue near the upper front corner. Small crack to the lower left corner of the clear case. (Triggs p 111-115.). Very Good .

Red Cloth. 144 pp. A guide to the practice of singing, discussing the steps one should take to become a singer, including teachers, concert hall considerations, the study of vocal works, acting, etc. With a short chapter on tobacco use. Sir Charles Santley was a noted Victorian English opera singer and oratorio, performing in many operas during the mid to late 1800s, as well as performing concerts in England and America. GOOD condition. General fading and uneven darkening to the covers, with rather heavy darkening along the spine. Area of staining, light discoloration to the rear cover along the fore edge. Minor soiling. Some scuffing along the extremities. Interior solid with a few minor pencil underlines. Pages apparently opened a bit roughly, with some chips, minor loss and tearing along the fore edge. Ownership signature present. Good/No Jacket.

As the introduction states, the work may have been inspired by Vladimir Mayakovsky's poem 'Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.' Dmitri Shostakovich was Soviet Russian composer in the mid 20th century, often at odds with the Communist Party, with he and he work being officially denounced on several occasions. Despite the threats to his career and life Shostakovich kept composing, eventually earning favor with the Communist Party, although bearing criticism for potentially yielding to the government critics. GOOD condition. Mostly minor soiling to the covers, with general fading, minor creasing and scuffing. Some creasing/slight curling along the extremities. Interior solid with some toning to the paper. Good .

A collection of musical scores by Matthew Locke, with lyrics, preceded by a short critical/historical introduction. Locke was an English baroque composer and music theorist, serving King Charles as Composer of the Wind Music (Wikipedia). As Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians notes 'he is important in musical history as the most eminent of the predecessors of Purcell in the composition of English stage music,' (Vol. V p 354). GOOD condition. Several scuffs, abrasions and small punctures to the surface of the wraps, with minor soiling and a few faint stains. The scuffs have resulted in minor superficial loss of the outer layer of the wraps in those locales. Minor creasing at the corners and along the spine. Some bumping to the corners. Good .
