FIRST EDITION. 24mo, 80 x 45 mms., pp. [iv], 155 [156 blank], uncut, engraved frontispiece, attractively bound by Zaehnsdorf (with his tiny gilt mark just barely visible in the lower gilt margin of the verso of the front board) in later full tan morocco, triple gilt borders on covers, spine ornately gilt in compartments, gilt dentelles, with title in gilt on spine, marbled end-papers, with the miniature bookplate of M. MINIATURE. BIBLE.
The Bible in Miniature Or a concise History of the Old & New Testaments.
London: Printed for W. Harris, 1771. 64mo, 44 x 25 mms., pp. 255 [256 blank], followed by two more blank leaves, D7 signed D5, two engraved title-pages, 14 engraved plates (of 15; lacking the plate at page 234), bound in red morocco, with a central oval panel with the Christogram JHS in gilt on the rear cover (lacking on front cover), spine gilt in three compartments, top edge gilt. A very good copy. Adomeit notes that this was the first appearance of this binding style on a miniature Bible; later editions published by Newbery in 1780 often exhibit exhibit the Christogram binding. [10138] There are a number of Marcilly miniatures on the market, but none identical to this one; nor could I find one in the usual databases with the same layout, plates, and configuration. A copy with having almost the same description was sold at auction in 2007,

Glasgow: John Bryce and Son, [no date]. [c. 1893]. 32mo, 32 x 18 mms., pp. 348, engraved portrait of Johnson as frontispiece, bound in publisher's red leather, with "Bryce's English Dictionary" on front cover and (vertically) "Pears" on the rear cover, contained in a plain metal case, lacking the magnifying glass that acts as circular window, and the circular mounting is loose, but present. Bryce published six of these miniatures in the 1890s, all contained in a metal box or boxes.

Imrary Bookseller. 1798. 32mo, 76 x 43 mms., pp. 294, 80, the last 80 pages having a separate title, "Translations & Paraphrases, in verse, of several passages of Sacred Scripture. Collected and prepared by A Committee of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. In Order to be Sung in Churches. Glasgow: Printed for J. Dickson, Edinburgh. 1798," with separate pagination but continuous register, and curious woodcut on title-page, bound in contemporary black calf, panelled in blind, marbled end-papers; fore-margin of first leaf frayed and pulling loose at inner margin, title-page of first item at little soiled, forn cover sprung, slight wear to front joint and corners, but a good to very good copy, with the vertical inscription on the verso of the leaf opposite the title-page, "Helen Brown [?Doum]/ her Book/ 1800." Uncommon. ESTC T91767 locates copies in BL, NLS; and NYPL.
