¶ In 1900 opent een van de eerste designwinkels van Nederland zijn deuren. Bij 't Binnenhuis in Amsterdam is vooral 'rationalistische' vormgeving te vinden: stoelen met zichtbare houtconstructies, bovenal Hollands en uiterst vakkundig vervaardigd. De meeste stukken worden in opdracht van particulieren getekend door H.P. Berlage en Jac. van den Bosch. Tot nu toe was maar weinig bekend over de clientele van 't Binnenhuis. Dit boek brengt daar verandering in. Een klantenboek en het opusboek van de winkel leverden zo'n 1300 namen op, vooral hoger opgeleiden en eerder 'nieuw' dan 'oud' geld. Hoogleraren als Jacob Rotgans, Johan Huizinga en Hendrik Lorentz kochten bij 't Binnenhuis, maar ook ondernemers als Anton Philips, Francois Bouvy en de familie Fentener van Vlissingen. Socialisten als Henri Polak en Floor Wibaut droegen het een warm hart toe. Latere ontwerpers als Martin Visser en Koen Limpberg groeiden thuis op tussen meubilair van Berlage en Van den Bosch. ¶ La famille Bellangé occupe, dans l'histoire des arts décoratifs du XIXe siècle, une place particulière. Comprenant, sur deux générations, quatre importants ébénistes, elle fait figure de modèle pour une étude des différentes modes, des différents styles et des différentes conditions de production de meubles à Paris de la fin de l'Ancien Régime au Second Empire. L'ouvrage de Sylvain Cordier aborde la vie et les oeuvres de cette famille, mais entend aussi et surtout replacer leurs travaux dans la diversité des contextes historiques favorisant ou dessinant les conditions de réalisation et de commerce du meuble parisien tout au long de la première moitié du XIXe siècle. The Imperial Household, a key institution during Napoleon's reign, was responsible for the daily lives of the Imperial family; it consisted of six departments, each headed by a high-ranking dignitary of the Empire: the grand chaplain, grand master of ceremonies, grand marshal of the Palace, grand master of the hunt, grand chamberlain, and grand equerry - each intimately involved with every moment of pageantry in the court. Featured here are more than 250 works of fine and decorative art, the visual magnificence of which was part of a calculated and deliberate effort to fashion a monarchic identity for the new emperor.

¶ Augsburg war seit dem 16. Jahrhundert ein bedeutendes Zentrum für die Herstellung und den Export von qualitativ hochwertigen Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Möbelkunst, die in ganz Europa berühmt waren. Diese herausragende Stellung behielt die Stadt auch im 17. Jahrhundert, als die Kistler/Kunstschreiner in den Notzeiten des Drei§igjährigen Kriegs und der wirtschaftlich schwierigen Phase danach immer wieder um ihre Existenz rangen.Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die Bedingungen des Augsburger Kistlerhandwerks und stellt die wichtigsten Werkstätten des 17. Jahrhunderts vor. Erstmals gelingt es, aus dem dicht überlieferten Aktenmaterial im Augsburger Stadtarchiv die Namen und Biographien der Künstler zusammenzutragen und ihre zum Teil extrem aufwändigen und kostbaren Auftragswerke zuzuordnen. Bemerkenswert ist die künstlerische Produktion der Augsburger Kistler, die einen Luxusmarkt bediente, der auch während des Drei§igjährigen Kriegs nicht zum Erliegen kam. Begehrt waren bei den weltlichen und klerikalen Auftraggebern nicht nur die Aufsehen erregenden, prunkvollen Kunstkammer- und Kabinett-schränke sowie die repräsentativen Gebäude- und Kirchenausstattungen, sondern auch architektonische Entwürfe, Uhren, Musikspielwerke und Messinstrumente, die in einem umfangreichen Abbildungsteil vorgestellt werden. Die Kunsthistorikerin Christine Cornet ist Dozentin an der Fachakademie für Restauratorenausbildung, Goering Institut e.V., in München. Mit der Studie über die Augsburger Kistler im 17. Jahrhundert legt sie die für den Druck überarbeitete Fassung ihrer 2010 an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg eingereichten Dissertation vor.

¶ La production d'Abraham Nicolas Couleru à Montbéliard est emblématique de l'ensemble de l'ébénisterie française de province. Elle rappelle l'origine, à la fois germanique et protestante, des ébénistes du faubourg Saint-Antoine et marque avec force son indépendance par rapport à la capitale. Elle doit être rangée aux côtés de celles d'artisans non moins célèbres, comme les Hache à Grenoble, les Demoulin à Dole et à Dijon, Tairraz à Lyon, ou Besse en Avignon. Cet ouvrage vise à mettre au point des critères objectifs d'attribution de l'ébénisterie provinciale française, comme, par exemple, l'importance de l'étirement ou du rétrécissement d'un meuble : à l'est, les commodes sont souvent larges ; à l'ouest, au contraire, elles sont plus étroites et ramassées et, à Lyon, elles sont plus hautes. Il n'existait jusqu'ici que des monographies à caractère local, pour l'essentiel consacrées à l'Alsace, au Dauphiné et au mobilier portuaire de la côte atlantique, travaux d'ampleur et de qualité fort inégales, qui rendaient pratiquement impossible une vue d'ensemble de la production française en matière d'ébénisterie. En tentant de brosser le paysage de la production de l'ébénisterie provinciale en France, cette étude illustrée par près de 400 photographies, cartes et tableaux, dont plus de 200 meubles, 40 estampilles, étiquettes ou marques, vient combler une lacune considérable et se révèle indispensable pour l'identification des meubles régionaux.
