VANDERMONDE, M.,
Recueil périodique d'observations de médecine, chirurgie, pharmacie, &c.
Paris, Vincent, 1756, 8vo., hardcover with paper on the front and back and leather on the spine, red coloured edges with reading ribbons. It concerns a medical periodical that appeared monthly. Volumes 1-7 of "Recueil périodique d'observations de médecine, de chirurgie et de pharmacie, &c." were published from July 1754 until December 1757. From 1758 until 1793 (volumes 8-95) the periodical continued as "Journal de médecine, chirurgie, pharmacie, etc." Here we have 8 books (containing 26 issues), numbered on the spine (in goldtooling) as "Tom. I-VIII". These numbers only count the actual books, they do no refer to the volumes inside. Present issues in these 8 books are:Book I = volume 4 (January, February, March) 1-240 pp.Book II = volume 6 (January, February, March, April) 1-320 pp.Book III = volume 7 (August, September, October, November, December) 81-480 pp.Book IV = volume 8 (January, February, March) 1-288 pp.Book V = volume 8 (April, May, June) 292-576 pp.Book VI = volume 9 (July, August, October) 1-190+292-384 pp.Book VII = volume 9 (November, December) 388-576 pp.Book VIII = volume 10 (January, February, March) 1-64+100-299 pp.The books are in very good condition with only minor wear from rubbing against each other when picked up off the shelve or some light (water)stains here and there. All eight books come with a reading ribbon. Throughout the books there are some lovely decoratiev initials and head- and tailpieces. There are three engravings: book V (April 1758 "Bandage Symmétrique"), book VI (August 1758 "Figure des Vers Sorties de l'oreille gauche d'un Enfant de six ans le 18. Juillet 1756.") and book VIII (February 1759 "Instrument pour les Denta"). Each book comes with an ex libris: "C'est mon plaisir" (Levasseur, Paris), depicting a double family crest. The left crest belongs to the La Rochefoucauld family. This family has a long history. The right crest remains unidentified but probably belongs to a family related by marriage. l Medical periodical, incomplete series containing 26 issues.
