Luyken, Berlin, Oct. 1810"), authorative and early book on medicin, intended to bring order to the science of medicin and to improve the education of doctors by Christoph Wilhelm Friedrich Hufeland (12 August 1762, Langensalza - 25 August 1836, Berlin) who was a German physician, naturopath and writer. He is famous as the most eminent practical physician of his time in Germany and as the author of numerous works displaying extensive reading and a cultivated critical faculty. First volume on general medicin, second volume on fever and local inflammations, third volume on skindisease and poisoning. Wonderful present for a doctor.

[ca. 1824], XLVII, [7]pp. paper binding, biography of Johannes Mulder (1769-1810) son of merchant and mayor of Franeker, Friesland, who would become a famous doctor and professor in medicine, written by (his son) Nicolaas (Claas) Mulder (1796-1867). Bound with Historia Morbi, quo defunctus est Vir Cl. Joh. Mulder. Not in KB/STCN (available in Leiden only). Scarce. l The chopping surgeonJohannes Mulder (1769-1810) grew up and studied in Franeker. He finalized his education in Leiden. He returned to Franeker to become Professor of Medicine. On July 21 in 1798, Mulder had to amputate the leg of Gelske Wierts from Dronrijp, a girl of 18 years old. He completely removed the leg, the hip joint included. It was the first time that a patient survived this operation. Gelske enjoyed a miraculously quick recovery. Afterwards, she married and had five children. Mulder wanted to write a scientific article about the operation. But it didn't come to that. After he got an appointment as professor in Groningen, he died at the age of forty-one, due to a failed jaw operation.
