¶ L'abbaye de Remiremont etait une des plus anciennes et importantes maisons religieuses des Vosges. Fondee au VIIe siecle, en relation avec toute la noblesse locale ou plus eloignee, controlant une partie des institutions religieuses vosgiennes, elle etait un des fleurons de la Lorraine monastique. Importante, elle l'est aussi pour les medievistes, grace aux textes qu'elle a laisses, particulierement le Liber memorialis, qui livre le nom de milliers de religieux et religieuses et de laics en contact avec l'abbaye. Malgre cela, les chartes de Remiremont n'avaient pas encore ete livrees au public. Jean Bridot a comble cette lacune, ne reunissant pas seulement les chartes recues par l'abbaye, mais aussi celles qui, bien que conservees dans d'autres fonds, la concernent. De la charte fausse de Romary, l'eponyme fondateur du monastere, datee de 620, a l'energique avertissement adresse en 1231 par l'abbesse Marguerite aux agresseurs de l'abbaye, ce sont 171 chartes qui sont soigneusement editees, a partir de dizaines de manuscrits ou d'imprimes anciens. L'ensemble permet de suivre le developpement et la vie de Remiremont, entre ses allies et ses concurrents, ses appuis et ses ennemis. Le corpus des actes est edite dans l'ordre chronologique. Il est suivi par un index des personnes et des lieux et par un index des matieres. Languages: French.

¶ Volume IV is devoted to the items in the Beinecke's general collection with the shelf numbers 481, 482, 483, 484, and 485, each a discrete collection of manuscript fragments. The text consists of 285 entries -- describing single leaves, groups of leaves, or pieces of leaves -- of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts written between the seventh and sixteenth centuries in Western Europe. They are, for the most part, the battered remnants of otherwise lost books from the Middle Ages. Almost all of the fragments included in this catalogue are in Latin, although there are a few items in Middle High German and in Hebrew. The two larger groups of fragments described here (MS 481 and MS 482) were assembled originally as a palaeographical collection documenting a wide range of Latin bookscripts used during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Included are specimens in Uncial, Visigothic, Merovingian, Beneventan, and humanist scripts, as well as numerous examples of Caroline minuscule and Gothic book hands,with a particular richness in eleventh- and twelfth-century manuscripts from Southern Germany. The fragments described in the catalogue are almost all derived from books. There are manuscripts of biblical texts (with and without glosses), classical and patristic authors, exegetical treatises, sermons, liturgical works, monastic rules, medieval encyclopedias, legal works, scholastic treatises, schoolbooks, grammatical works, medieval chronicles, calendars, and medieval poetry. Classical authors are represented by manuscripts of Vergil and Cicero; the Greek fathers by Basil and Origen (in Latin translation); the Latin fathers by Augustine, Jerome, and Gregory. Medieval writers include Isidore, Bede, Paul the Deacon, Notker Balbulus, Bern of Reichenau, and Thomas Aquinas; and on the secular side, Boethius, Priscian, Wirnt von Gravenburg, Eberhard of Bethune, and Ludolphus de Luco. There are numerous liturgical manuscripts, many of them with early examples of musical notation, including a substantial portion of an eleventh-century breviary; sequentiaries with works by Notker Balbulus and Gottschalk; and seventeen leaves of a twelfth-century antiphonary from Lambach that shed new light on the performance there of a Magi play. Manuscripts written in Italy, Spain, France, England, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and the Low Countries are represented. ¶ De vijftiende eeuw was het hoogtepunt van de Vlaamse miniatuurkunst. De kunst van de verluchting, de schilderkunst in de boeken, genoot toen een succes zonder voorgaande in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden. Bibliofiel Filips de Goede was er een belangrijke impuls aan de miniatuurkunst. Hij deed een beroep op de beste verluchters om tegemoet te komen aan zijn wensen. In zijn spoor plaatsten ook ridders, geestelijken en de stedelijke bourgeoisie bestellingen bij talentrijke verluchters zoals Lieven Van Lathem, Willem Vrelant of de Meester van Wavrin, in die tijd even vertrouwde namen als Rogier van der Weyden of Hans Memling dat vandaag nog zijn. Het waren stuk voor stuk gerenommeerde kunstenaars die onvermoeibaar werkten aan het illustreren van kronieken, ridderromans, traktaten over de jacht of devotietraktaten. Zo ontstonden echte meesterwerken waarvan de artistieke kwaliteit amper haar gelijke vindt. Voor het eerst brengen de Koninklijke Bibliotheek van Belgie en de Bibliotheque nationale de France hun collecties samen en bundelen ze hun krachten om de bloeitijd van de Vlaamse miniatuurkunst in de kijker te zetten. Maar liefst 140 van de meest prestigieuze verluchte handschriften worden tijdens deze internationale dubbeltentoonstelling aan het publiek voorgesteld. In deze catalogus maak je kennis met de hoogtepunten van de tentoonstelling in meer dan 200 kleurenillustraties. Met teksten van dertig specialisten uit binnen- en buitenland.

¶ This volume presents a study of the Burgundian court during the 15th century, and provides a forum for new research in various fields. In the course of the fifteenth century, the reputation of the Burgundian court rose to an unprecedented level, catapulted forward by ever growing territorial ambitions and accumulation of wealth.
