A psychological study of a tormented couple and a celebrated description of Italian mores . and civilisation. See: Wilson, pp. 1180. The author was an ardent foe of the Emperor Napoleon, and one of the major precursors of romanticism and modern criticism. (1766-1817). Good.

Contemporary, fine full calf with elaborate cicular intertwined design on covers in a filed within triple filet lines and corner fleurons.
