A bound volume of this 19th century journal, featuring poetry and fiction, as well as essays on marriage, domestic issues for women, the water cure, etc. As pagination indicates, this is haphazardly done, with contents lacking for two sections, making it difficult to date those two. The first section indicates it is January to June 1848, comprising volume 3 of this journal. POOR condition. Front cover DETACHED. Heavy scuffing, fading and edgewear, with the spine worn, chipped, creased. Foxing throughout, heavy to the first and last few pages. Minor scattered soiling and staining. 7 plates DETACHED and laid in, with their fore edges worn. Reference copy only of this work. Poor .

OCLC records indicate George Barrie may have published an English edition in 1898. GOOD condition. Minor soiling, staining, and spotting to the covers. Cloth split and chipped at the head and tail of the spine, with some loss. Minor edgewear. Cloth backstrip spine glued into the rear inside cover, giving the author and title, as well as stating library edition, presumably demonstrating what a finished spine might look like. Good .

Fugate was a gay activist and author. Fugate served in the Navy, and in between stints in the service, wrote his first novel Quatrefoil. When it was revealed he was the author, he was honorably discharged from the Navy. This experience led him to take an active role in working for gay rights. GOOD jacket on a VERY GOOD book. Minor fading, scuffing and soiling to the jacket, with heavier soiling and toning to the rear panel. Two large tears to the upper rear jacket, with moderate bumping, scuffing and edgewear.
