This copy does not appear bound with sheets from the parts issue, though unlike Gimbel's second copy, page iv is not a blank (containing the list of illustrations), none of the plates precedes the title page, nor is there a catalogue in the rear. Gimbel/ Podeschi A43. Amer. Imprints 55380. Boards rubbed, calf worn at edges and joints, spine a bit brittle, endpapers toned at edges, scattered foxing, 3 inch closed tear to plate at p. 110, tear to edge of one leaf, small chip to bottom margin of p. 109 and 404. Binding tight. About very good.

Dickens wrote the Overture, portions of the First and Fourth Acts, and the entire Act III. Wilkie Collins wrote the remainder. Podeschi: E20. Eckel p. 168. A very good copy, wrappers lightly worn at fore corners, tiny tear at stitch hole on spine, rear wrapper with small soil spot,, contents lightly browned, a few marginal tears, affecting the bottom of the column divider on pp.10-11.

Illus. with etched plates and frontispieces from the works of Frederic Dielman, E, H. Garett, R. Swain Gifford, Frank Merrill, C. O. Murray, W. L. Taylor, and others. 8vo. In addition to the novels, essays, and poems by one of the greatest of the 19th century English novelists, whose "luminous intelligence" Leavis praised, the set also includes the three volume "George Eliot's Life as Related in Her Letters and Journals, arranged and edited by her husband, J. W. Cross. Spine ends a bit flattened, small tears to the head of spine on two volumes, dampstain to the fore edge and top edge of one volume, to fore edge of another, and to the boards and end papers of a third volume. Chips to four labels all of which are a bit rubbed, but titles legible. Fourteen of the volumes unopened (untrimmed), interiors very tight and clean throughout. Overall about a very good set.
