Octavo; pp; (iv), 231, (i), colophon; three quarter blue crushed morocco and marbled paper covered boards and marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, else deckled edges, spine lettered in gilt, a signed binding, "Adams Bindery", (Ralph Randolph Adams, New York). Rogers' designs are always arresting, pleasant to simply hold, beautiful to simply scan, and delightful to read. Francis Meynell stated that Rogers was.."the greatest artificer of the book who ever lived". Sterne's "Journey" is a landmark book bridging a divide between travel and introspective fiction. This copy has an interesting provenance, a signed binding and great printing! This copy bears the tasteful bookplate of noted architect, Philip Lippincott Goodwin, co-designer of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Some rubbing to the edges and corners, else a very good solid binding on a beautifully designed edition.
