The author provides much information and instruction to immigrants to the United States during mid nineteenth century, extolling the virtues of life in the American democracy. Some of the topics covered are topography, demographics, government and laws, occupations, currency, and a section devoted to travel directions by rail and ferry to specific destinations. It is a remarkably comprehensive, yet compact introduction to newcomers to the United States nearly two centuries ago. Good.
