This issue featuring two short paragraphs on the "Southern Colored Delegation," apparently visiting President-elect Garfield in Ohio, seeking to have an African-American appointed to his cabinet. Members of the delegation included Lawrence Lee, D.A. Stroker, R.B. Elliott, George Washington Price, Jr. George L. Mabson and James Buchanan Menerux. Another short editorial mentions the delegation and criticizes the Republican party for using African-Americans to get votes, but abandoning them after the elections. Also present is a short piece on Sitting Bull preparing for war and accounts of murders and general mayhem in the US. GOOD condition. Horizontal and vertical fold creases present. General toning. No wrappers, perhaps as issued. 84 pp. Presumably issued by the China Information Committee, this work provides a collection of short news briefs or articles published by the committee, providing news or updates on the Sino-Japanese War of 1937-1945. The committee published a journal, where these pieces probably came from. The China Information Committee was formed in 1937, and published English language propaganda for foreign audiences. The committee was controlled by Chiang Kai-Shek (see Burke Library Archives for previous information). This piece contains items on the war itself and various battles, news on a guerrilla school, missionary reports, "Japanese Head Hunters," etc. GOOD condition. Paper toned, with lower corners creased and curled. Faint creasing to the first page. Good .

A single issue of this newspaper published by the Western Home and Foreign missionary Association, providing some theological musings, news, and reports from various missions, as well as opinion pieces. Perhaps of note in this issue is a brief mention of the Mendi mission in West Africa and Sarah Margru Kinson, A formerly enslaved child who was aboard the Amistad. Kinson was among those who returned to Africa after being declared free. Local missionaries decided it would be best for her to return to the United States and get an education, so she attended Oberlin College before returning back to the Mendi mission to serve as principal of their school. Brief news from other missions is also included, including news from Jamaica, Hawaii (Sandwich Islands), Siam, in California and elsewhere. Two anti-slavery pieces also are present in the paper, one discussing the use of religion to justify slavery in America; the other debunking and mocking various racist and ignorant talking points relating to African Americans. GOOD condition. Several horizontal and vertical fold creases present, with other wrinkles increases also noted. Minor scattered foxing and soiling to the paper. Good .

United Kingdom, Christian Social Union, presumed Publisher. Pamphlet. dates vary, ranging from the late 1800s to early 1900s. All pamphlets or single sheets. Included are leaflets #2-6, 15-17, 19-20, 22-34, 37, 40-41. Leaflet number 1 may also be present, with handwritten No. 1 perhaps indicating it as such. With approximately 20 other reports, member lists, lists of financial or business related matters relating to the group, etc. The leaflets discuss topics ranging from strikes, temperance legislation in the United States, profit sharing, state protection of children, the aged poor, methods of industrial peace, life in West London, etc. The Christian Social Union was a social group associated with the Church of England. Established in 1889, the group studied social conditions of its times, with the aim of alleviating social injustices such as poverty and other related social ills. The group merged with the Industrial Christian Fellowship in 1919. Condition of the pieces range from GOOD or better. Some are very brittle, with extensive chipping, tearing and loss of margins. General browning to the pieces. Some soiling. A few pieces with minor notations. Good .

Single sheet, 4 pp. Single issue of longest continuously published newspaper in the United States, now published as the Hartford Courant. The newspaper was founded in 1764, and was first published as a weekly, becoming daily in 1837. The first and last page are devoted to ads for various businesses, with the interior pages providing state and national news, mostly political coverage. Of note is a short piece recalling the naval battle between the USS United States commanded by Stephen Decatur and the British ship, the Macedonian. Decatur emerged victorious in this battle, taking the Macedonian back to the US. The battle was part of the War of 1812. Also present is another shortish account of fighting in Canada as part of the war. GOOD condition. Heavy chipping, tearing and creasing along the spine, with moderate loss, rendering the paper somewhat fragile when opened. Horizontal crease along the lower fourth of the paper. Moderate toning, minor soiling and staining, with a few faint dampstains. Small piece torn off the upper front corner. Good .
