Frankfurt am Main, 1840. 4to.Old boards, worn. Ed. by Isaac Marcus Jost (1793-1860), pioneer in the field of modern Jewish historiography. He was the first to publish a universal history of the Jews (13 vols. 1820-1847) including the history of his own time. The "Centralblatt" which covered the cultural history of world Jewry, was aimed at arousing interest in Jewish history both among Jews and non-Jews. In Jost's view, the knowledge of Jewish history was a mayor contribution to jewish emancipation (Kirchner, 11546).
