Greeting Card Sent to City Center Producer Jean Dalrymple on Her Birthday with an Autograph Message Inside Signed by Actor Sylvia Miles. Together with an Envelope Inscribed & Signed by Miles.
September 4, 1994. 1994. - A shaped color greeting card [maximum 4 inches high by 3-1/4 inches wide] picturing a cupid sitting on a stone bench & smelling a rose has a bold autograph note inside signed "Sy L Miles" and a drawing of a heart with an arrow through it & "Jean'" and "Sylvia" penned within it. Together with an envelope with a decorative flap inscribed and signed "Sylvia Miles" on the address side. Dalrymple has noted on the envelope at top left in red ink "Crabtree Violets" [perhaps a gift received from Miles] There are a few tiny brown marks to the envelope at top right. Very good, Miles writes below the drawing of the heart "Sept 4, '94 / Dearest Jean / I'll love you forever!!! / Happy Happy". Boldly penned on the envelope is :"To Dearest Jean -- / From Sylvia Miles / on Her Birthday / (CARD INSIDE)". Sylvia Miles [1924-2019] was an . American actor nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in "Midnight Cowboy" [1969] and "Farewell, My Lovely" [1975]. She also starred in Andy Warhol's film "Heat" [1972]. Jean Dalrymple (1902-1998) was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville, appearing with James Cagney and Cary Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing, the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski, Mary Martin, Jose Iturbi, Andre Kostalanetz, Nathan Milstein, and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943, serving as a board member, producer, and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951, Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder, commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world. (1946). - A 10 inch high by 8-1/8 inch wide glossy black & white vintage photograph by Columbia Pictures photographer Ned Scott depicting the attractive Hollywood actress and dancer Ann Miller, attired in a majorette uniform. The dancer is posed seated on an elaborately wrapped Christmas Gift, holding up a Santa mask. The credits "Ann Miller - 622" are printed in white along the bottom left of the image. The photographer's credits are stamped on the verso. There is light creasing along the edges and corners. Three holes have been punched along the left edge. Very good. This a vintage publicity photo, not a reproduction, sent out to newspapers and periodicals of the period. Text from a printed press release tipped onto the verso reads: "COLUMBIA STUDIOS, HOLLYWOOD. A BIT OF PULCHRITUDE . is winsome Ann Miller dancing star of Columbia Pictures. Very good .

Standing with her hands on her hips, the glamorous movie actress is attired in a showgirl's slit dress, with a bare leg and her midriff showing. She is wearing an elaborate headdress and jewelry. The number "682-78" is printed in white within a black rectangle at the right of the bottom. 20th Century-Fox's credits are printed along the bottom margin. There is minor creasing to the edges. Three holes are punched along the left edge. There is a red dot stamped to the top left corner of the verso. Very good. Directed by Lewis Seller, "Doll Face" stars Vivian Blaine, Dennis O'Keefe, Carmen Miranda, and Perry Como. Based on the play "The Naked Genius" by Gypsy Rose Lee, the film is known as "Come Back To Me" in the United Kingdom. Very good .

Original Photograph of the Academy Award Winning American Movie Star Paul Muni, Inscribed & Signed by Muni Aboard Ship After His Benefit Performance in Israel.
On board S.S. President Roosevelt, May 4th, 1938. 1938. - An original 9 inch high by 7-1/8 inch wide black & white photograph on heavy stock by the S.S. Roosevelt's ship photographer Wm. D. Fink. The image, shot on board ship, portrays the Austro-Hungarian born American actor Paul Muni standing on the ship's deck. Attired in a handsome light colored overcoat and scarf over a three-piece pin-striped suit, the actor stands on the deck with his hands in the coat's pockets and his fedora hanging from the ship's helm. Inscribed in ink by Muni to the ship's Assistant Purser Lt. Franklin E. Peroutka diagonally at lower right of the image "Franklin E. Peroutka. With grateful appreciation and good wishes. Paul Muni 5-4-38". The recipient's first name is smudged. The photographer's credits are stamped at the bottom of the verso: "Wm. D. Fink / Marine photographer / S.S. Pres. Roosevelt / U.S. Lines". There is some minor soiling with browning along the left border. Very good. Born to a Jewish family in the Austro-Hungarian town of Lemberg, the American actor Paul Muni (1895-1967) spoke Yiddish as his first language. Emigrating to Chicago, he began his career in that city's Yiddish theater before moving on to Broadway. He was signed by Fox in 1929 and was highly praised for his powerful performances which included the title role in "Scarface" and his Academy Award winning Best Actor performance of Louis Pasteur. Muni was a strong supporter of Jewish causes and was on a World tour in 1938 during which he gave a performance in Israel to benefit the Tel Aviv food fund for poor children. Very good .

Circa [1946]. [1946]. - Promotional broadside, approximately 12 inches high by 9 inches wide, softcover. The broadside, printed & illustrated in black & white on a yellow ground depicts 2 caricatured African natives,a man and woman, gossiping about the film's characters; "His wife won't take any of his lip since she saw M.O. kiss T. B. in W. W.'s N.I.P.."* with a smaller figure playing a drum in the top right corner. A caption along the bottom edge explains the line of dialogue: "*Merle Oberon and Turhan Bey in Walter Wanger's 'Night in Paradise'..in Technicolor of course!" There is light creasing to the edges of the broadside, some of it caused by heavy rubbing to the verso. Very good. "Night in Paradise" is a 1946 film produced by Walter Wanger and directed by Arthur Lubin. This expensive Technicolor film featuring plaster Grecian temples and painted skies was Wanger's second attempt to film the novel "The Peacock's Feather" by George S. Hellman. It ended up costing $1.6 million and losing Universal around $800,000. Very good .
