The film was released on November 25, 1938, and was based on the classic story by Munro Leaf, originally illustrated by Robert Lawson. This book was published contemporaneously with the film release. According to Dave Smith's Disney A to Z, many of the animated characters were based on Disney employees: the matador was a characterization of Walt himself, who even provided the voice of Ferdinand, and Milt Kahl, one of the Nine Old Men, was the voice of Ferdinand's mother.. These are very nice illustrations of the early characterizations from the Disney animators. The book clearly has delighted the younger set, and seen some use, but is remarkably intact and is still a beautiful example of the earlier representations of these delightful movie stars. ; 4to; 10 pages; Here are Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck (with the long bill of his early years) , Horace Horsecollar, Goofy, Clarabelle Cow, Pluto, and the Three Little Pigs, all in one, cute Christmas poem from 1936. These characters were the stars of the Disney Silly Symphonies animated film shorts. The Silly Symphonies and this book both predated the release of the first full length animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.. G+/NONE.
